Authority sets new fine schedule

The board of the Jekyll Island Authority voted Monday (September 24, 2012) to enact a fine schedule for ordinance violations on the island,  a month after hiring its own code enforcement officer.

Island officials say persons who violate fines will most likely be warned before receiving a ticket, but the schedule allows Glynn County Magistrate Court, which will handle citations, to have a basis for its fines.

The fines are as follows:

  • Abandoned vehicle $100
  • Accumulation of weeds/grass $100
  • Barking dog, first offense, $50
  • Barking dog, second offense, $75
  • Building permit,$100
  • Dog in beach dunes, first offense, $100
  • Dog in beach dunes, second offense, $250
  • Dogs on restricted beach, $25
  • Drinking in public, $50
  • Fishing in lakes, $25
  • Flashlights on beach, $50
  • Glass containers on beach, $25
  • Illegal dumping in waterways, $500
  • Leash law violation,first offense, $25
  • Leash law violation, second offense, $100
  • Motor vehicle in restricted area, first offense, $50
  • Motor vehicle in restricted area, second offense, $100
  • Open burning, first offense, $100
  • Open burning, second offense, $350
  • Outdoor feeding of animals, $25
  • Overnight parking in restricted area, $25
  • Proof of rabies certificate,$100
  • Satellite dish, $100
  • Walking in dunes, first offense, $100
  • Walking in dunes, second offense, $250
