The Department of Natural Resources along with coastal state legislators proposed an amendment, House Bill 271 (HB 271) to how the Shore Protection Jurisdiction line be drawn for permitting activities within the delicate sand sharing system. The proposal was seen as inadequate for coastal protection by the Initiative to Protect Jekyll Island and the Center for a Sustainable Coast.
